Ben has been the backbone of Legendary Australian electronic group THE BIRD.
Since 1995 he has been hammering out live Jungle/Drum n Bass/Dubstep keeping dance floors rollicking till 2011. 8 albums later THE BIRD have migrated and nested seperately across many different parts of Australia, But Ben's love of playing frenetic beats to a dancefloor has remained. The last decade of constant touring he has found himself alone on the road and hence the alias JUNGLETONE was born. 5 albums later he is only now!creating a solo live electronic show.
His new live show attempts to redefine himself yet again... “ Remix Experiment” a multimedia wall of sound and vision features some killer beats and amazing modern technology conceived by Ben.
He uses turntables, Vocals and triggering to manipulate the electronics, keeping human dynamics and tempo as the primary focus, and lets the computers listen to him. Using custom built software engines he has setup a majority of his live set to be Humanised or randomised in it's performance so no two performances are ever the same.
He has always been and continues to be about the “Live Take”. As he improvises on his bizarre junk drum kit he also sings melodies that in the mix become heavy synth lines unrecognisable from the original vocal input. This allows him to become a one man wall of Rhythm and Subsonic......ok.....Drum N Bass.
A turntable next to the kit allows him to cut and scratch over his beats also dropping visuals to react to his music. This is another interesting crossover to DJ/VJ culture as Ben has created his own rhythmically triggered cross-fader called “THE GRAVITY SCRATCH” allowing him to scratch as fast as he can drum with incredible sensitivity. He also uses video mixing to create an abstract visual narrative to his music. As always ,centre stage is his world class drumming, The backbone of his high energy performance style, his sense of rhythm commands the audience and takes them to new highs, new styles & grooves in the constantly evolving world of electronic music. Ben uses a drum kit uniquely... like no other you have seen before. Expect a lot of beats.
